More Celebration Pictures: 23 Years at the Space Center! Space and Science News. Generous Imaginarium. The Perfect Sunday.....

Hello Troops,
I stopped by the Space Center Friday night to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of the founding of the Space Center by delivering cupcakes.  It was a quiet celebration..... very quiet.  I think I can speak for all of true blue Space Center fans when I say that we're storing up all our celebratory energy for the big 25 in two years!
I had to stop by the Space Center keep a 23 year tradition going.  I've celebrated all the Space Center's anniversaries at the Space Center, and hope to keep doing it for years to come. Even if the anniversary fell on a Sunday,  I'd stop by and do a quiet walk through and remember that cold, dark, chaotic November night when hundreds and hundreds of people descended on poor Central School to see this strange teacher and his space ship simulator.
Stopping by the Space Center Friday night also saved me from making a mathematical fool of myself. I spent the whole day thinking this was the Space Center's 24th anniversary. Megan set me straight as I handed her a cupcake (embarrassingly enough, she had to go through the math to prove it).

The Space Center Celebrates 23 Years

Megan Warner, Space Center Director sits with Jon Parker, Asst. Space Center Director
to enjoy a celebratory cupcake. Megan has started to put up her Christmas decorations
by setting up her Christmas Computer (there isn't room in her tiny office for a tree)
We can also wish Jon Parker a Happy Birthday.  One cupcake - two birthday celebrations.
Boy did I save some money on that!
The Phoenix crew just died. Miranda is giving them a reprieve from extended death
time because of the Space Center's 23rd anniversary.
The Phoenix volunteers show their anniversary excitement.
(or are they smiling because I just gave them a delicious cupcake?)
Jacque and Brayden caught holding hands in the Magellan Control Room.
"We were just congratulating each other on the Space Center's 23rd anniversary," Brayden explained.
(They're engaged to be married so it was OK)

Connor is leading the Magellan crew in a rousing rendition of
"Hip Hip Horray!" for the Space Center's 23rd Anniversary.

Jake is happy the Space Center is still here.
He hopes to get a real paying job really soon!
Marissa is happy the Space Center is still here.
She has secret plans to overthrow Megan and Jon and
become Space Center Director General. Her innocent smile is
rehearsed and very disarming
Michaela is always happy to have her picture taken regardless of the event

The Highlight of My Week at Renaissance Academy

A student supplied caramel apple and a Diet Coke. Does life get any better?
Yes, she got an A for the day. My students know the game and play it well.

Bazaar Asteroid with Six Tales Discovered
Astronomers have spotted a never-before-seen phenomenon in our solar system's asteroid belt: a space rock with six tails, spewing dust from its nucleus like spouts of water radiating from a lawn sprinkler.
Scientists using the Pan-STARRS 1 telescope at the summit of Maui's Haleakala volcano in Hawaii first detected the six-tailed asteroid in August. They dubbed it P/2013 P5 and noted that it looked fuzzier than typical asteroids, which usually appear as tiny points of light.  Read More from Space.com

The Importance of Vaccination

When a critical portion of a community is immunized against a contagious disease, most members of the community are protected against that disease because there is little opportunity for an outbreak. Even those who are not eligible for certain vaccines—such as infants, pregnant women, or immunocompromised individuals—get some protection because the spread of contagious disease is contained. This is known as "community immunity."  Read More

The Imaginarium

If Life Hands you Ordinary, Make it Extraordinary

Nail Art

We've all been there, so let's be kind to one other because you never know
when your turn will come around again.

My sixth graders love the Imaginarium. We look at it once a week or so and
find awesome, imaginative text. I love this one: "Charmed from fresh goat's cream."

Someone on the London Underground sure loves his job!

Awesome Australia.  Realizing they can't always change a racist,  they endeavor to
teach them  good public manners.

Creative birthday card.

Where is this? Point me in the right direction and I'm there.

See what's in the Room of Rational Fears....

OK, what else would you add?

Imagination on steroids.

Awesome 23 years!!! In 23 more years we'll look back and be so glad we've kept going just like we are so glad we've gotten to this point!
