Google Wants To Build a Star Trek Computer. What is the Oort Cloud for Real? The Imaginarium

Google Wants to Build a Real Space Center Like Computer.

Google wants to make the fictional computers of Star Trek and the Space Center for real.  One day we won't even need flight directors in our ships.  Our vision of the 23rd century may only be 30 years away at most!

Where No Search Engine Has Gone Before Google has a single towering obsession: It wants to build the Star Trek computer.  Read More

Come on Boys, Let's Get With It.

In 2010, a multi-partisan group of thirty-four scholars made a proposal that President Obama create a White House Council on Boys and Men, as a parallel program to the White House Council on Women and Girls.  Warren Farrell, the leader of the effort, identified five different areas in which boys are in crisis—education; jobs; emotional health; physical health; and fatherlessness.  Read More

The Secret to Becoming Prosperous

I heard this fellow Tom Corley interviewed on the radio last week. He studies the life habits of prosperous people compared to less prosperous people.

He said nothing surprising. For a few examples, he said the prosperous tend to delay gratification, exercise, set life goals, make life plans, volunteer, severely restrict their kids' TV and computer time, set examples of hard work and self-discipline for their kids, to be constructive with their time, and to be frugal except in matters of health and charity.

Sounds old-fashioned, doesn't it?

The Oort Cloud, For Real

Many of the Space Center's stories have the crews taking their ships through a solar system's Oort Cloud.  Passage takes a few minutes, then you encounter your first planet.  Before long, you've reached your destination.  Does the Space Center's version of an Oort Cloud have any basis in reality?

The Oort Cloud is a collection of large ice and rock objects located roughly 1.9 light years away from the sun; that's almost half way to our nearest star neighbor - Proxima Centauri.  I've had some of my smarter crews wonder why the ship doesn't just go up and over the Oort Cloud.  Thankfully I get that answer right. The Oort Cloud doesn't necessarily lie alone the orbital plane.  It extends in all directions, almost like a sphere up and around the star.

Does Death Exist? Immortality, for a Price. Find Yourself in the 7 Billion. The Imaginarium.

 Hello Troops,
Today we have a few pieces of space and science news that I found interesting, following by an extended Imaginarium.  We start with an fascinating look at something every living thing must experience - death.

Does Death Exist? New Theory Says ‘No’
Many of us fear death. We believe in death because we have been told we will die. We associate ourselves with the body, and we know that bodies die. But a new scientific theory suggests that death is not the terminal event we think.  Read More

Russian research project offers 'immortality' to billionaires - by transplanting their brains into robot bodies
A Russian entrepreneur who heads a hi-tech research project called 'Avatar' has contacted billionaires to offer them immortality.  Itskov claims he will personally oversee their immortality process, in exchange for an undisclosed fee.

Itskov, a media entrepreneur, claims to have hired 30 scientists to reach this goal - and aims to transplant a human brain into a robot body within 10 years.  Read More

The Imaginarium of Music.
A Musical Masterpiece of the Human Condition

Claudio Monteverdi wrote L'incoronazione di Poppea - "Pur ti miro, pur ti godo" around 1643.

Nearly 400 years later, the passion, creativity and imagination transcends the centuries.  And through his work, Monteverdi's genius, creativity and inspiration have become immortal.

One listener wrote.
I am still amazed by this piece of music. I touches my soul so gently, while rubbing against my heart, I feel as if someone has kissed my internal scars with all the light, gentleness, care and love, that they could humanly muster. As if an archangel has embraced me, into a different realm of Being. A different perception, of Existing.
