Renaissance Space Academy Voyager Club Volunteer Recognitions
The Renaissance Space Academy (RSA) provides STEAM experiential education programs to our students and the public at large. Our current programs include:
1.  The Space Academy Young Astronauts Program: Grades 4-8.  An after school club.
2.  The Young Coders:  Computer programming club taught  after school and Saturday mornings.
3.  Space Academy Leadership Training (SALT): Provided to our RSA Cadets after school.
4.  Speech and Debate:  An fun, interactive, immersive class taught to strengthen and sharpen the speech and debate skills of our young RSA Cadets.
5.  Echoes and Reflections: A history class with an emphasis  on using the past to help solve today's cultural and societal problems.
6.  Voyager Club Volunteers: The RSA's volunteering organization open to teens aged 13-18 years.

Our Voyager Club volunteers are recognized for their school grades and volunteer hours at the Space Academy.  Three of our Voyagers recently received their membership lanyards.

New Voyager Club members are part of the Pioneer Squadron.  The Pioneers wear black lanyards. Pioneers who reach the 100 volunteer hours level and who meet the necessary grade point averages enter the Explorer Squadron.  They wear the "Starry Night" lanyard.
Contact the Space Academy for information on joining the Voyager Club.

News from the Christa McAuliffe Space Education Center
By James Porter

Join the Space Center corps of engineers and enter for a chance to win $500 and a flight in our simulators.
We are holding a competition to design and build the next generation ðŸ˜‰ of engineering activities for our simulators. We are looking to engage the talents of our community to create activities that will go into our new starships that help to operate the ship controls and perform various tasks that enhance the experience.

Central Elementary School and Christa McAuliffe Space Center Construction Update

By James Porter
As the site supervisor Dan has been with the project from the beginning and we couldn't have asked for anyone better. There have been plenty of unique problems considering they are building 12 ft away from our school which is in full use. Dan has been very positive and helped keep the project rolling at a steady pace. So thank you Dan from Hogan & Associates Construction, we wanted to recognize your efforts in bringing this great new resource to our community.

Seen in the pictures below Dan (red hard hat) took some Central staff through to see the progress that is being made. It's pretty amazing to see the scale of the project up close.

The Farpoint Universe Starships
Created by Dr. Ryan Anderson
Telos Discovery Space Center

Telos Discovery Space Center, Renaissance Space Academy, and Reality's Edge create missions set in the Farpoint Universe.  Farpoint is rich in alien civilizations composing the galaxy's great houses.
Creating the special effects for a unique universe is difficult.  Thankfully, Farpoint has Ryan Anderson from Telos, director of the Telos Discovery Space Center.  Ryan has been busy imagineering the ships of the fleet.  Today we will highlight the Terran Space Command Corvette. The Corvette was designed with two things in mind: speed and anti-fighter weapons.  Dr. Anderson's Corvette is excellent at fighter interdiction, courier missions, blockade running, and anti-piracy operations.

A Christa McAuliffe Space Center Payload Heading Into Space! See the CMSC's Newest Simulator Logos. Imaginarium Theater.

By James Porter, CMSC Director
December 4, 2019

Watch the news report highlighting the CMSC's payload.

Background - In August we were approached by two BYU students, Karina Orton and Leesie Clegg, about being part of a documentary. The purpose was for students to design an experiment that would go into space for the inaugural launch of Sugarhouse Aerospace's commercial rocket.
We assembled the best and brightest of our volunteers into a group of six rocket scientists. Mentored by Doug Pusey and Mason Edmondson they have worked ever so hard over just two months to design and build their experiment. On December 14th their experiment along with others will launch.

So we figured it was about time to share this exciting news and give you some insight into this amazing project. Yesterday they were interviewed by John Hollenhorst from KSL News.

We'll let you know when that airs and share lots more details in the coming weeks as our team of rocket scientists get ready to travel to Spaceport America to watch the launch.
Great work Victoria, Wes, Daniel, Cecily, Kate, and Preston!

See the New Logos for the CMSC's Odyssey and Cassini Simulators

The Christa McAuliffe Space Center's Odyssey Simulator pin has been updated with the ship's new designated number  SCC-1995-A.   The first Odyssey was numbered NCC-1995.  The current Odyssey is numbered NCC-1995A.  The CMSC's Facebook post received many comments about the new destination.  What did SCC stand for.  Mr. Porter answered that question.  The SCC stands for Seeker Class Cutter.

An interesting side note, Seeker was the name Dave Wall wanted to give the first Odyssey back in 1995.  I didn't like the name and preferred ISES (Inner Space Exploration Ship) because the Odyssey was meant to be a miniature ship that could travel through the body (with the ability to do missions in space and underwater). Dave didn't like ISES. After a year of using both names, I needed to make an executive decision and dropped both names. The "Odyssey" was my compromise name.  The rest is history.

The Odyssey's first simulator pin.  You know you're an oldtimer if you own one of these

The Starship Cassini currently under construction at the Christa McAuliffe Space Center has a logo designed by Jon Parker and Mason Perry.  The Cassini was designed to resemble my first simulator "Voyager" built at the founding of the CMSEC in 1990.  The CRV stands for Cruiser Voyager Class. The number 9020 honors the first Voyager (built in 1990) and the Cassini set to open in 2020.
