Hello Troops,
It was a light day for news (meaning there is nothing to share - no scandal, no controversy, no nervous breakdowns, no UFO sightings and no.... I take it back) except for the fact that the Space Center lost power just as the field trip group was getting off their bus this morning.  I was in the middle of my math money auction in my trailer when the lights flickered, flickered again, then went out.  I wondered how the Space Center staff were handling the situation.  I could have paused what I was doing to run in and try to manage the situation, but then decided against it.  The Space Center staff are highly competent adults who've been with me for years and years.  They know to always ask themselves, "What would Victor do?" when faced with any situation.  I continued offering up delicious WalMart donuts for auction thinking that if they needed me, they would come out and get me.  Well....... they didn't.

Math ended at 10:30 A.M.  I walked my class into the school and went to see what had happened.   The staff had done everything by the book.  Zack was sitting in the foyer.  Aleta was mulling around and Megan and Lorraine were outside with the class.  This was yet another confirmation that the Space Center will run just fine without me next year.  I leave behind a fully competent staff who know how to do the job and do it well.

Volunteering Meeting A Success. We Have New Web Address. Space News. The Imaginarium

Hello Troops,
We had a very good turn out for our 'Return to Volunteering' meeting held at the Discovery Space Center in Pleasant Grove Tuesday evening.  Everyone got to see the new simulators and meet the Discovery Center's management.  We explained the volunteering program and gave an update on the current situation with the Space Center at Central School.  Many questions were answered in the question and answer session and misunderstandings cleared up.  Suffice to say, everyone is ready to get back to work and bring back the old Space Center's spirit of volunteerism at the Discovery Space Center. 

This has been a very busy week; I've had meetings with the Foundation's Board, I've had meetings with Discovery Space Center's management, there were three newspaper articles published on Wednesday covering my retirement from the Alpine School District and my new positions at Renaissance Academy in Lehi.  This insane schedule has prevented me from finalizing the work on the volunteer online registration program.  I'll have more time over Spring Break to get it all worked out and on the web so you volunteers can start signing up to work missions.   I want to thank you all for your patience.

The District decided to keep the Space Center's web address (spacecamputah.org).  That URL now points to the Space Center's old web site under District control.

NASA to Launch Enormous Solar Sail
Nasa plans to launch an enormous, ultra-thin sail into space to see whether it is possible to use the pressure of the sunlight to provide propellant-free transport capabilities.
Solar sails have been mooted for centuries. In 1610, Johannes Kepler observed that comet tails always point away form the Sun and suggested that "provide ships or sails adapted to the heavenly breezes, and there will be some who will brave even that void".
