I'm at my computer looking out at a gray September Sunday. Cold, rainy days are my favorite. I guess you could call me a happy camper right now.
The Farpoint Voyagers Met Yesterday
What a turnout for our first Farpoint Voyager's Cadet meeting held yesterday at Renaissance Academy! There were nearly fifty in attendance - our best meeting yet. There were cadets sitting at the desks, at the back of the room, at the front of the room, and in the aisles between desks. The fire marshal would not have approved, but what is one to do? I'd like to think that I was the star attraction of the event, but that wouldn't be truthful. Perhaps the real draw was the fantastic department heads who spoke about the club's departments. Melanie Long and Jacqueline Lystrup introduce us to the medical department and invited interested cadets to apply for membership. Matt Long did a great job talking about the engineering department. McKay Hardy wrapped things up by introducing the room to the club's newest department, Information and technology. Those of you who couldn't attend can email me for an application to one of the club's departments.
Perhaps the real star of the morning was the video tour Brent and Alex Anderson put together highlighting their new simulator controls. These controls are a work in progress and nowhere near complete. What you'll see are basic conceptual designs and functions.
The star of the day was either the controls, or the 3D virtual walkabout through the Vanguard simulator that followed. I thought you'd like to see the presentation yourself knowing my verbal descriptions would be considered poor substitutes.
There is a pause where the screen goes blank between the simulator controls and the 3D walkabout. Be patient and wait for the Vanguard tour to follow.
Renaissance Academy has Openings
Are you happy at your present school? How would you like to go to a school with a simulator as awesome as the Vanguard? My school has openings in the middle school and a few primary grades. You would be most welcome. I'd love to have you be a part of our in school Farpoint program. Go to renacademy.org for more information. October 1 is the enrollment deadline. Give it some thought.
Watch a CMSEC Magellan Mission From Beginning to End.
Connor Larsen directed me to this video showing a full Magellan mission from beginning to end posted on YouTube. If you're new to this space edventures thing, give this a watch. You'll be amazed at what you see.
