The long awaited InfiniD starship simulator software have been released and installed at the Discovery Space Center in Pleasant Grove and on the Artemis and Apollo simulators at Lakeview Academy in Saratoga Springs. Last Thursday I stopped by Lakeview to see them for myself. We found Lakeview Space Center director Brandon Wright crawling around in the upper sections of the ship mumbling something about completely unreliable CO2 scrubbers. He graciously gave Ryan Anderson from Telos Academy and myself a demo of the controls. We were not disappointed. The crews will love them!
Take a look at these screen shot examples and see for yourself.
Giving flight directors more freedom over the missions is one cool feature of the new controls. They can be set to a high level of automation, which comes in handy if the flight director is fresh out of the academy. They can also be adjusted to a lower level of automation if the flight director is experienced and flying an experienced crew - thus giving the flight director more hands on control to deal with quickly changing mission parameters.
The Space Centers are always finding new ways to make your experiences in space memorable.

I shot this video on my iPhone last Thursday after the controls demonstration. The Artemis and Apollo are duplicate simulators which sit side by side on the school's south end.
